Optimized SQL Queries for Business Directory Module
We have upgraded our Business Directory module to use less SQL query which in turn reduce page load time and lessen the burden of our server. We hope this will help you - our visitors - to have a better and more pleasant experience using our website.
In the old model the function that required for displaying business categories was used recursively hence multiple SQL queries were called. It was mostly just for counting business listings that belong in a particular category. We used to have 500+ SQL queries when displaying top categories and about 250+ SQL queries when displaying sub categories, depends on how many sub sub categories belong to that specific sub categories.
The new model simply cached how many business listings belong in a child category. The parent category of that child category then used that cache (and all cache from its first child categories) to display how many business listings belong to that parent category. The results is also cached and will further be used by its parent category. The cache will be refreshed everytime a visitor visit/view the category so you will never see an outdated count of business listings. With this new model we only use at most 70 SQL queries for top categories and about 35+ for sub categories. That is more than 85% reduction in SQL queries.
Although we are sure that less page load time will benefit you, our visitors, we would like to hear any kind of feedback from you to further enhance the usability of our Business Directory in particular and BatamWeb.net in general.
